| This is the official site of the Hirosaki Gekijo. A contemporary
theatre company based in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. Information accessed
here includes a history of how we got started, our ideas and methodology
and how you can become involved with us. There is also a calendar of coming
events and past performances. |
| About Hirosaki Gekijo: |
| Founded in 1978, the Hirosaki Theatre Troupe
officially became the Hirosaki Gekijo (Yuugengaisha) in 1997. Situated in Aomori Prefecture in
Northern Japan, the Hirosaki Theatre office is located in a small town
called Namioka(now, it's a part of Aomori City). This is the birth place and residence of our co-founder
and head playwright Koji Hasegawa. Also located in Namioka is our large
rehearsal space where all rehearsals and set building takes place. We are made up of about 20 members from all parts of Japan, coming from as far away as Osaka and kanazawa to be a part of Hirosaki Theatre Company. |
| Why "Hirosaki" Gekijo if we are based in Namioka, Aomori? |
| Because that's where we first began! Hirosaki is where we performed our
first plays, did all our rehearsals and where most of our original members
were from. Our very humble beginings actually started in a liquor warehouse,
but when the old brick building was condemned in 1993 we moved to our current
location. |
| Are you interested in joining our theatre company? |
| We are open to all applications be they for acting or staff positions, no experience necessary. To be eligible you must be self supported financially and be in easy living and travelling distance from both Hirosaki and Namioka. Hirosaki Gekijo regularly presents 4 plays each year in both Hirosaki and Tokyo. All applications must be in Japanese and be accompanied with a current photograph, and can be sent to the address below. |
